Startups

Apply for a business credit card

You won’t pay any annual fee for the first 12 months. The annual fee is normally £32 per card issued.

This offer only applies to UK businesses and you must make a Royal Bank of Scotland Business credit card application within 6 months of opening your business current account.

What you should know

To apply for a Royal Bank of Scotland Business credit card, you must be a UK resident aged 18 or over. Your registered business must be in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man or Gibraltar or you should be registered for tax purposes in one of those jurisdictions. The Royal Bank of Scotland Business credit card is subject to status and for business use only. A £32 annual fee will apply after the 12-month offer period ends.

Applications for our fee-free Business credit card is subject to approval and we reserve the right to change or withdraw the Startup Offer without prior notice. If you apply for any other credit facilities, security may be required and product fees may apply.

Apply for a business overdraft of £500

And we’ll drop the arrangement fee if you apply within the first 12 months. The arrangement fee is normally £50. It is subject to approval and any additional credit facilities may incur fees and could require security.

An overdraft facility on your startup business bank account could be a good way to help with cashflow.

Applications for a business overdraft of £500 is subject to approval and we reserve the right to change or withdraw the startup offer without prior notice. If you apply for any other credit facilities, security may be required and product fees may apply.

24 months free business banking– in detail

Most banks add a service charge for the day to day running of a business account. We don’t. But you will pay for unarranged borrowing, additional services and Bankline charges. At the end of the 24 months, you’ll go on to our Standard Published Tariff.

Free banking applies to businesses that started trading within the past twelve months with projected or existing annual turnover not exceeding £1 million.

What you should know

Our Business current account supports your day to day banking needs. You can set up Direct Debits for utility payments and Standing Orders to make regular payments to suppliers etc. You can have a chequebook if you need one and you can also set up text alerts.

What are text alerts?

Text alerts are a great way of keeping tabs on your account. You can get a text alert to let you know when your balance is about to go below a certain limit, or to let you know what your balance is at a specific time.  You can set them up when you fill in the online application form or in our Mobile Banking app.

What you should know

Cash withdrawals and cheques have charges attached to them. Please read our Business Account Charges for full information

The Business current account does not pay interest on balances. You might also need a Deposit account if you are likely to hold spare funds. We can set up an automatic transfer to move money between accounts, to maximise your spare funds

Any balances over £85,000 are not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

Apply for our startup business current account and you'll get 24-months free banking (as long as you meet the eligibility requirements).  ByFree banking’ we mean there are no charges for the day-to-day running of your account and no 'service charge'. The free banking starts from the date your account is opened.

What isn't included?
Charges for “Unarranged Borrowing”, “Additional Services” & “Bankline Charges” are not part of the free banking offer. At the end of the 24 months, you automatically go on to the Standard Published Tariff. If your business needs change, we have alternative charging options.

When you apply for a Startup business bank account, we’ll give you the option to apply for an £500 overdraft (eligibility applies). If you’re successful, there won’t be an arrangement fee for the first 12 months (it’s usually £50), because it’s part of the Startup package. 

You’ll need the personal details of all of the partners, members or directors of the business (including their home addresses for the last 3 years). You’ll also need your business details, including your Company’s Registration Number (provided by Companies House) if you’re a limited company. All the details are in the "Ready to apply" section, which will help you to prepare.
